Metallizing Operator I - 3rd Shift

Metallizing Operator I - 3rd Shift (Sun - Thurs 10:30 pm - 7 am) - San Diego, CA 

Job Goals:

Assist in the set-up, run, and monitor any one of the metallizing machines. Ensures machine is producing a quality product in a timely fashion.

Essential Responsibilities of the Position (includes the following; other responsibilities may be assigned):

  1. Assists in the set-up, run, monitor, troubleshoot, and repair (as required) of any one of the Metallizers.
  2. Performs and ensures quality inspections of raw and metallized film.
  3. Prepares and ensures production and department documents such as roll tickets, run log, maintenance log, utilization sheets, and sample work-up sheets are complete and accurate.
  4. Follows standard operating procedures, set-up specifications, supervisor’s instructions and housekeeping policies.
  5. Operates a forklift and/or pallet jack to move product.
  6. Acts in a safe manner at all times. Follows all company policies and procedures as they relate to safety reporting. Reports all safety incidents or hazards immediately upon occurrence.

Non-Essential Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Records preventive maintenance.
  2. Communicates with other plant personnel and supervisors regarding production issues.
  3. Informs Supervisor of any parts or supplies needed.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned and necessary.

Essential Requirements for the Position:

  1. High school diploma or GED required. One or two years of college or four-year military service preferred.
  2. Good mechanical ability, logical trouble-shooting skills and attention to detail.
  3. Basic math skills and computer skills required.
  4. Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Prior experience operating a forklift strongly preferred. Experience in a manufacturing environment also desired.

In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments/an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. The total annual target cash range (Hourly Pay Rate plus Bonus, annualized (40 hrs/week * 52wks)) for this position, is $49,100 to $72,000. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.]

Nature and Scope of Role:

  • Manufactures close tolerance plastic parts by setting up and operating an injection molding machine, while maintaining high safety standards, equipment, and all quality documentation.
  • Set-Up and Run New Production Jobs when Scheduled..
  • Assist technicians and mold setters to ensure all required tooling is set up and process per documentation
  • Inspects product actual dimensions per drawings.
  • Ensure manufactured parts conform with all customer requirements through the completion of detailed inspection plans/reports..
  • Runs production safely and consistently measuring all critical areas per sample lot size.
  • Deburrs and bags all production in accordance with the router steps and stamps off operations before moving to the next operation.
  • Evaluate tooling and provide improvement suggestions to process Engineer.
  • Knowledge on Toshiba, Engel, Arburg and ZHAFIR injection molding machines.
  • Maintains 5S work space before, during, and after each scheduled shift.

Essential Functions:

  • Reads blueprint drawings and work orders to understand and meet customer specifications.
  • Produces parts by following the work orders, blueprints, and programming folders.
  • Sets up molds for each work cell and maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements following manufacturer's instructions.
  • Maintains drawing specifications by observing process temperatures and injection pressures to detect non-conformances.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces.
  • Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, and optical comparator.
  • Informs supervisors and team leads when machinery needs repairs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with all company EH&S policies and procedures
  • Maintains work space before, during, and after each scheduled shift in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other supporting tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Required Skills & Experience:

Production Supervisor

The shift supervisor is responsible for supporting a safe working environment in area of responsibility at all times including correcting or reporting unsafe acts or conditions through appropriate channels of resolution. The supervisor is the primary communicator between production line personnel and upper management. Reporting to our Global Value Development Manager, the Digital Customer Support Leader will play a critical role in supporting the inside sales team to move to a more digital business model, with accelerated processes to cope and anticipate current and future business growth. These changes aiming at providing superior experience to our customers and a re-enforcement of our co-development business model.

The mission will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • In close collaboration with operations, the incumbent will have to create and implement a process in line with objectives defined by the NPI (Prototyping) project teams in terms of lead time and product offering.
  • The process will cover the full value chain from proposal to product delivery.
  • It will include a complete follow up process and reporting tools including KPI’s and monthly indicators. 
  • Work with the global Capture support team to develop new coherent approach of product costing.
  • Lead the development of new digital tools that will be at disposal of capture support team to build new product proposals and other key customer service functions.
  • Organize the follow up and maintenance of those tools, to make sure they are always in line with latest change of economic conditions or process modifications.
  • Participate and support the new pricing tool team project and support the development of digital tools.
  • Monitor the implementation and maintenance of processes linked to new market standard (Nuclear, semiconductor, Aviation, Space).
  • In some specific cases: support and coordinate the development of new and large customers programs in production.

This position is reporting to the Value development manager and will work among our global and international customer service team Supporting various technical B to B end markets as Energy, Space, Aviation and industrial markets.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • Bachelor’s degree - Technical/Engineering degree or related discipline - Required. Masters Degree is Preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Project Management, Development Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering function in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • 5+ years’ experience demonstrated track record identifying and implementing projects is required.
  • 2+ years experience in Aerospace related Manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Must have initiative, strong organizational and decision-making skills, and a high degree of customer orientation.
  • Ability to implement change in a department to align with the company vision.
  • Ability to lead in a team-based environment and to work collaboratively to solve problems
  • Demonstrated track record of planning and driving program execution for complex development activities
  • Experience in metal processing is preferred.

Job Summary

Manage to the company’s Principles of Conduct and Action expectations while working to support all plant pillar initiatives. Manage all improvement activities working to improve overall plant operations, reduce material usage, reduce process variation and losses, improve employee competency, and work to reduce all forms of waste using WCM, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies. 

Main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and direct the Process Engineer, Reliability Engineer, and EOM position.
  • Design and implement corrective action processes to eliminate wasteful or ineffective practices and processes.
  • Oversee problem-solving methods i.e., EWO (troubleshooting corrective action) and A3 (gap from standard corrective action) systems to eliminate unplanned delay.

Impact: Saint-Gobain is seeking a skilled team player to join our dynamic Maintenance group. The Instrumentation & Controls Technician is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of the production equipment to ensure minimal production down-time and a safe work environment. Production equipment includes; material handling, bulk chemical systems, batch mixing, web coaters, extruding, converting, and packaging equipment.

The Instrumentation & Controls Technician is also responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the facilities equipment such as: HVAC, boilers, chillers, compressors, pumps, motors, pollution control equipment, life safety, electrical power distribution, network, hoists, docks and automated doors.

3rd Shift: 10:30pm - 7am, Sunday - Thursday

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00/hr plus $1.00 shift premium

Essential Duties:

  • Candidate should be able to install, setup and troubleshoot temperature, speed, weight, pressure, flow and thickness sensing instrumentation.
  • Able to monitor and troubleshoot controls using programmable logic controllers.
  • Set up and tune loop controllers and PID loops.
  • Maintenance and repair of electrical industrial control systems.
  • The position requires scheduled shift work, weekend work, and emergency call-ins during off shifts to support production.
  • The Technician will report into the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs electrical and instrumentation & controls preventative maintenance, calibrations, and inspections to reduce equipment downtime.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED, with a minimum of 2 years industrial maintenance experience

OR

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in industrial, electrical, electronics or instrumentation technologies from two-year college or technical school

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with analog temperature, pressure, flow, speed and weight measurement.
  • Experience with discrete sensors.
  • Experience with process loop calibration and equipment.
  • Experience with industrial control networks such as MODBUS, BACnet, TCP/IP.
  • Experience working with 480v 3 phase power distribution.
  • Experience with motor controls and VFDs.
  • Has working knowledge of major systems including HVAC, electrical, controls, plumbing, lighting, docks, overhead/sliding doors and life safety.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of algebra and trigonometry.
  • Understand good safety practices and the requirements of OSHA and other safety-related codes.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the local pay range for this position, which is $25.00 to $35.00 per hour, plus 3rd shift differential of $1.00/hr. This hourly pay rate offered can vary depending on location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures.

The total annual target cash range (Hourly Pay Rate plus Bonus, annualized (40 hrs/week * 52wks)) for this position, is $59,400 to $82,300. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.

  • Shift Differential (Hourly Rate plus Shift Differential of $1.00/ hr)
  • Standard Overtime (Hourly Rate * 1.5)
