Manufacturing Process & Application Engineer II - OPERATIONS GROWTH POTENTIAL - Life Sciences

The Manufacturing Process & Applications Engineer is a dynamic position that is responsible for providing process, manufacturing, and engineering support to the production operation, taking part in process development, scale up, and continual improvement projects under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.

We are also looking at this role as a platform for to the growth and development of the next Saint Gobain Operational Leadership team.

In addition, this innovative role will include customer interaction to support new product and application development efforts as well as finding exciting solutions to meet the needs of a customer base that demands excellence.

This key player will use WCM & Lean Six Sigma tools to improve process efficiency, reduce EHS risks, reduce scrap/waste, solve process related problems and justify capital expenditures, as well as supporting world-class product development efforts.

The successful candidate will also provide technical expertise and equipment trouble-shooting support to the Maintenance, Quality, and Production departments as needed.

As in all positions, the Manufacturing Process Application Engineer will support a safe working environment and correct or report unsafe acts or conditions through appropriate channels of resolution

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct hands-on assistance to Manufacturing personnel on the production floor to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions.
  • Lead site effort to optimize manufacturing and EHS processes by identifying losses, implementing improvements, and putting controls in place to sustain improvements.
  • Works with Quality Department on defect / deviation Root Cause Analysis using methodical tools such as WCM, Five Why Analysis, and Pareto Analysis.
  • Supports R&D and Applications Engineering on new product and process development, trials and experiments, and material trouble diagnosis. Works on Scale Up projects as R&D work transitions to production.

 

Is this job for you?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Process Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering. Extrusion Experience desirable.
  • Strong process and manufacturing engineering skills, including process diagnostic capability with a record of process cost savings
  • Advanced computer knowledge and competence with computer network navigation is critical
  • Strong organization / project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated advanced quantitative analysis skills
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and with teams
  • MS Office Word, Excel, Access, Project and CAD desirable
  • Six Sigma project work strongly preferred.
  • Self-motivated and hands-on.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the national pay range for this position which is $79,500 to $123,500 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $87,450 to $135,850. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs work and repairs to machinery and plant support systems with regards to mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and performing other routine maintenance work on machinery
  • Works with a wide array of precision tools.
  • Fabricates custom parts, fixtures and guarding by means of arc welding, grinding, oxyacetylene cutting
  • Assembles and installs machinery and equipment such as mixers, saws, pullers, precision bearings, gearboxes, clutches, motors, shafts, sprockets, chains, conveyors etc.
  • Alignment skills, couplings on pumps and various couplings • Participates and supports World Class Manufacturing initiatives
  • Troubleshoots and repairs machinery and equipment in breakdown situations to ensure production requirements are met
  • Participate in making improvements to process and machines

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

Qualifications:

  • Must be a valid Alberta Journeyman Maintenance Millwright or Red Seal
  • 3-5 years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Experience with working with a CMMS system
  • Some experience working with Maintenance SAP system.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and aerial lifts
  • Understanding of bearings and their functions
  • Must be able to read drawings and machine parts from a sketch or sample
  • Excellent trouble shooting and analytical skills
  • The unionized plant operates on a 24/7 schedule
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Position is shift work which requires you to work both days, nights, and weekends
  • Shift is a 2-2-3 rotating every 2 weeks
  • Welding experience considered an asset

What’s the job?

The EH&S Manager reports to the CertainTeed Gypsum Silver Grove, KY Senior Plant Manager.  They will provide leadership and guidance for all employees to continuously improve plant safety, health and environmental metrics to world class levels by engaging and interacting with all employees at the Silver Grove, KY Gypsum Plant. 

  • Implement all Saint Gobain EH&S initiatives as well as the sites environmental and safety management system.
  • Research and coordinate all communications with regulatory agencies pertaining to environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Coordinate and conduct training for support function facility personnel as it pertains to EHS matters.
  • Responsible for contractor’s training and associated permits and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations to include all air and greenhouse gas permitting, reporting and documentation.
  • Responsible for the continued development and implementation of the organization’s safety program within the US business.
  • Directs training programs for support function teams and upkeeps media programs to increase proficiencies of company personnel in occupational safety matters.  These programs will include WHMIS, HAZCOM, safe job procedures, hazard identification, accident investigation and management responsibilities.
  • Consults with employees and contractors on aspects of the design and use of equipment and facilities as they relate to all safety functions, within the assigned functional area.
  • Keeps abreast of and assesses compliance with related federal, state or provincial and local legislations and ensures all required reports are compiled and submitted to required agencies. 
  • Takes the lead in the investigation of serious accidents and injuries and co-operates in the preparation of material and evidences for company use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations, within the assigned functional area of responsibility.
  • Manages Worker’s Compensation programs including claims management and the return-to-work program, for assigned personnel.
  • Resource for issues relating to occupational safety issues, within assigned area of responsibility
  • Performs SMAT and TASK audits and facilitates training of same, within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Back up to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations to include all air and water, TRI and SDS permitting, reporting and documentation.
  • Back up to all other EHS functions for site and region as needed.

What do you bring? 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety or equivalent experience 
  • At least 4 years in practical, hands-on experience in EHS, including practical application of industrial Health, Safety and Environmental experience, including emergency response.
  • At least 4 years of applied professional experience in safety preferably in an industrial/manufacturing multi-site environment. Gypsum board industry experience or similarly safety-oriented industry. 
  • Experience with support and compliance of formal safety training programs including Occupational Health & Safety, Mine Safety & Health Administration, Environmental, and Worker’s Compensation. Must be able to demonstrate hands on approach with clear results.
  • Excellent communicator with all levels of the organization using presentations and reports to convey information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

The Sr. HR Manager will provide strategic counseling to the Leadership Team on all aspects of Human Resources. This position reports to the Plant Manager and will play an integral role on the Site Management Team in helping to achieve business goals and objectives. Will work closely with the Central HR Team to ensure that Saint-Gobain principals and policies are maintained through the site.

Key Accountabilities:

Providing strategic counseling to the Plant Leadership Team on various Human Resources topics to support moving the business forward. The person in this position is responsible for the success of employee relations, recruitment and staffing at all levels, workforce planning, benefit administration, hourly and non-exempt pay systems, Human Resource Information Systems, communications, training and development, discipline, diversity programs and community relations with the assistance from the HR Team. Responsible for the wage, salary, benefits and for overseeing the annual processes for exempt, non-exempt and hourly employees for merit and bonus.

Lead the development, dissemination and interpretation of personnel policies and their implementation at the site, providing consultation to the management team on leadership initiatives. Ensure that policies are applied in a consistent manner to ensure reduction of risk for the company and the employee. Provide independent insight into the impact of such initiatives on personnel.

Oversee the development of a training procedure for the site with the Training and Development Manger to establish and maintain associated training documentation. Work with management team to develop and deliver required training and employee growth programs for new and existing employees.

Communicate and coordinate the delivery of benefits to site personnel.

Oversee the employment process including recruitment, selection, placement, development, compensation, corrective action, discipline and termination, including the use of temporary employees. Coordinate the Employee Performance Appraisal, Merit Increase and Annual Incentive Programs.

Lead and develop current HR Team in order to meet the growing and changing needs of the Portage facility with recruitment, selection, placement, development, compensation, corrective action, discipline and termination.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field, Required.

MBA (or equivalent), Preferred.

Work Experience

10+ years experience in Human Resources within Manufacturing; Required.

4+ years experience within HR Management/Leadership capacity; Required.

Travel for training and business meetings, up to 10%; Required.

What's the job?

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Manager designs and implements solutions and manages projects that support the plant in attaining safety, quality and production goals. 

The Maintenance Manager leads the repairs, installations, and upkeep of all process equipment.  Their main duties include planning and leading repairs, root cause analyses and designing maintenance procedures, tracking budgets and expenses and performing inspections on different equipment to find problems and make repairs.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading a team of highly skilled engineers, mechanics and electricians to achieve world-class performance by use of personnel, material, and technical resources to optimize equipment and facility usage.  Will lead or participate on project teams focused on continuous improvement in a number of areas including production efficiency and quality.

Maintenance Leadership

  • Lead repairs and reduction of downtime to improve production output and product quality.
  • Create and implement a reliability strategy within the Maintenance Department.
  • Ensure equipment and personnel adhere to all Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Develop multi-year plans to improve mechanical reliability to world class levels.
  • Is the plant subject matter expert in regards to preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Partners with other Reliability Team members in order to develop plant preventative maintenance plans which multiple departments can help perform in order to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Works with Plant Maintenance and Engineering Departments to develop predictive maintenance strategies to improve uptime with plant equipment and build in redundancy in critical areas.

Supervision of Maintenance Personnel

  • Leads the Maintenance Team in developing self-planning and execution process of daily, weekly and monthly PMs and work orders; ensuring proper prioritization; human resource and physical asset utilization.
  • Management of maintenance team to provide optimal support to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Provides 24/7 on call support utilizing maintenance supervisors, engineers, and maintenance technicians.
  • Understands cost and downtime trends and identifies projects to take corrective action.
  • Ensures the success of the Maintenance Team 5S program and Spare Parts Program.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 13% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The total target cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $114,260 to $178,540.
