This is a full-time, straight day shift position

  • Responsible for safely and effectively repairing, testing, installing and maintaining production equipment and facility systems
  • Identify and troubleshoot machine irregularities and breakdowns on extruders, cut off machinery, packaging equipment, power transmission, power transfer systems, compressors, pumps, grinders, process water cooling systems, shipping doors and gates
  • Work with and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems as well as pumps, gearboxes, bearings, seals and alignment of couplings
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as well as breakdown repairs
  • Fabrication for equipment repairs and/or upgrades
  • Fit and assemble parts using a variety of hand tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an Ontario Certificate of qualification for Millwright, industrial mechanic
  • 3 years of relevant experience in a production plant
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, repair of all equipment found in a manufacturing plant
  • Experience with machining, mill, lathe, grinder, etc. would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross functional team members
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and working conditions
  • Capacity to identify short term and long term countermeasures for production problems that arise specifically when extruding plastic
  • Passion for teamwork, ongoing learning, continuous improvement and maintaining a respectful environment.
  • Support a call-in system for emergency repair
  • Willing to work overtime upon request
  • Strong English language communication skills (both verbal & written)

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

ESSENTIAL:

  • Basic operating knowledge and understanding of manufacturing operations
  • Perform accurate standard and metric measurements and understand standard to metric conversions

What’s the job?

  • Develop capital cost, design, and installation plans for new environmental and sustainability equipment.
  • Secure required permits from governmental agencies for new equipment installations.
  • Implement approved capital programs within budget and schedule.
  • Manage site Air Permit and other environmental permits.
  • Assist with the management and disposal of plant waste streams
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that continually improve the facility's environmental and sustainability program
  • Assess potential environmental and sustainability risks, developing mitigation and adaptation plans.
  • Identify root causes of environmental and sustainability challenges, proposing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with management to schedule periodic maintenance and upgrades of environmental control equipment.
  • Monitor Federal, State, and Local standards and regulations for both environmental and sustainability compliance

Sustainability Responsibilities:

  • Champion sustainability initiatives at the plant level, driving efforts to reduce the site's environmental footprint in alignment with corporate sustainability strategies.
  • Develop and execute sustainability programs focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and carbon emissions reduction.
  • Collaborate with global sustainability teams to align the site’s sustainability initiatives with corporate goals
  • Implement sustainability reporting mechanisms, ensuring accurate tracking of key metrics such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste generation, and energy consumption.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives to foster a culture of sustainability, including training and awareness programs focused on environmental stewardship.
  • Pursue certification programs (e.g., ISO 14001, LEED, or other sustainability certifications) that enhance the site's sustainability credentials.

WCM Responsibilities:

  • Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, integrating environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Lead environmental and sustainability pillar activities within the WCM structure
  • Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to both environmental and sustainability performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement sustainability opportunities
  • Conduct root cause analysis for environmental and sustainability issues, using WCM tools such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams
  • Participate in WCM audits to ensure environmental and sustainability processes are compliant
  • Train and mentor plant personnel on WCM sustainability practices

What do you bring?

  • BS degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar Engineering field is required. Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with a focus on environmental or sustainability initiatives.
  • General knowledge of TCEQ regulations and familiarity with environmental licenses, permits, and reporting (Air Quality Permit, Industrial Storm Water Permit, SPCC Plan) is necessary for compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge or ability to understand operational excellence principles and tools, such as 5S, SMED, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and TPM. This will support the integration of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles in driving continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability programs.
  • CAD or AutoCAD skills and basic knowledge of process engineering software are required
  • Ability to design experiments and conduct statistical analysis of trials to measure the effectiveness of environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with changing situations, crucial for managing environmental incidents, permits, and compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees at all levels
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is key for managing multiple environmental and sustainability projects, meeting deadlines, and handling regulatory requirements efficiently.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Technical Operator will be responsible for successfully operating equipment, evaluating samples, and compiling information and reports. The list of duties includes but are not limited to:

SAFETY

SUPPORT PLANT OPERATIONS
