As an intern at Saint-Gobain Tape Solutions, you will assist our Maintenance Group in several areas. You will have the opportunity to build a lasting professional network, attend lunch & learn training, and interact directly with our company executives. All of this allows you to gain the necessary skills and knowledge.

Here are some of the activities that you may be involved in while working as a Summer Intern:

  • Updating facility drawings, part drawings & SOPs
  • Assisting with part and component specifications for the repair of equipment
  • Assisting with Maintenance projects including our annual shutdown
  • Working on project regarding spare parts inventory management

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

We are looking for an intern majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Chemical Engineering or a related field

Some basics needed for the position includes:

  • Experience with AutoCad or SolidWords in needed
  • Willingness and ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including around production equipment
  • Ability to work with operators, maintenance techs, and engineering staff as needed
  • Electrical drawing familiarity would be nice to have in addition to mechanical drawing
  • Knowledge of MS Office products

Corporate Sustainability Intern

Environmental Sustainability Engineer

This position is for the brand-new, state of the art, fiber glass mat facility in Oxford, NC.

  • Lead site efforts in achieving company Energy and Emissions Objectives, focusing on meeting the 2030 Sustainability Goals.
  • Manage assigned environmental and sustainability projects
  • Develop capital cost, design, and installation plans for new environmental and sustainability equipment.
  • Secure required permits from governmental agencies for new equipment installations.

  • Assist with the management and disposal of plant waste streams

  • Collaborate with global sustainability teams to align the site’s sustainability initiatives with corporate goals
  • Implement sustainability reporting mechanisms, ensuring accurate tracking of key metrics such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste generation, and energy consumption.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives to foster a culture of sustainability, including training and awareness programs focused on environmental stewardship.
  • Pursue certification programs (e.g., ISO 14001, LEED, or other sustainability certifications) that enhance the site's sustainability credentials.

WCM Responsibilities:

  • Support World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles, integrating environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Lead environmental and sustainability pillar activities within the WCM structure
  • Develop and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to both environmental and sustainability performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement sustainability opportunities
  • Conduct root cause analysis for environmental and sustainability issues, using WCM tools such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams
  • Participate in WCM audits to ensure environmental and sustainability processes are compliant
  • Train and mentor plant personnel on WCM sustainability practices

What do you bring?

  • BS degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar Engineering field is required. Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with a focus on environmental or sustainability initiatives.
  • General knowledge of TCEQ regulations and familiarity with environmental licenses, permits, and reporting (Air Quality Permit, Industrial Storm Water Permit, SPCC Plan) is necessary for compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge or ability to understand operational excellence principles and tools, such as 5S, SMED, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and TPM. This will support the integration of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles in driving continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability programs.
  • CAD or AutoCAD skills and basic knowledge of process engineering software are required
  • Ability to design experiments and conduct statistical analysis of trials to measure the effectiveness of environmental and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with changing situations, crucial for managing environmental incidents, permits, and compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees at all levels
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is key for managing multiple environmental and sustainability projects, meeting deadlines, and handling regulatory requirements efficiently.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations in environmental regulations or sustainability initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required for reporting, data analysis, and preparing documentation related to environmental permits, sustainability projects, and WCM initiatives.
  • Ability to perform operations within quality and time standards, which is critical for implementing capital programs and maintaining environmental compliance.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Technical Operator will be responsible for successfully operating equipment, evaluating samples, and compiling information and reports. The list of duties includes but are not limited to:

SAFETY

  • Always support a safe working environment in all areas of plant and with all employee interactions.
  • Immediately, correct or report unsafe acts or conditions through appropriate channels of resolution.

SUPPORT PLANT OPERATIONS

  • Daily operations include, but aren’t limited to, safety, quality, housekeeping, operations, maintenance, material handling, and inventory management.

  • May lift and stack heavy objects not to exceed 50 pounds and carry these items up to 50 feet of distance.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and walkways associated with industrial manufacturing environments.

The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. The total annual target cash range (Hourly Pay Rate plus Bonus, annualized (40 hrs/week * 52wks)) for this position, is $52,000 to $72,800. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.]

Research Technician - CertainTeed Platforms

CertainTeed, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain is looking for a Research Technician to join their team and facilitate the R&D processes for sustainable building materials. The Research Technician safely performs specialized R&D assignments, involving testing, prototyping, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning our processes, equipment, and products. Prototypes and products generally relate to the construction and building materials. Processes and operations tend to mimic manufacturing systems at lab-/pilot-scale, ensuring that our trials and experiments can be scaled up in an industrialized fashion.

The Research Technician, alongside the principal investigators, develops and implements protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure and maintain a high level of safety, consistency, and organization in experiments. They collaborate closely with principal investigators to conduct experiments and to troubleshoot issues in support of the overall research goals. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, 5S, training, updating SOPs, communications about the overall project progress, maintaining proper inventory of the materials, and general equipment maintenance.

  • Supports engineers and scientists in R&D team with their projects.
  • Executes and/or supports commercial and manufacturing support requests.
  • Manages and documents projects and tasks effectively with supervision.
  • Plays role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks etc.
  • Demonstrates open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibilities.
  • Conducts hands-on experimental work, prototyping, and is engaged in test method development.

Essential Functions

Prepares/processes materials samples including:

  • Conduct standard and exploratory experimental tasks.
  • Routine laboratory activity to make or prep materials and test samples.
  • Development work with non-routine R&D assignments such as design of fixtures for experimental set-up and establishing proper data acquisition.
  • Collects and reports scientific & engineering data obtained from laboratory equipment through an effective plan/coordination and maintains laboratory notebook.
  • Maintain laboratories and equipment including set-up and operation of experimental equipment or instruments, 5S, and preparations for lab audits.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED (demonstrated equivalent) with 1-5 years of relevant technical experience in manufacturing environments, research laboratories, and/or pilot-scale R&D. Associates degree in an Engineering, Technical or Science related field (or demonstrated equivalent) preferred, including related experience in independent technical projects.

    • General laboratory knowledge required.
    • Create a grassroots proactive culture of safety (physical) by encouraging, empowering, and involving all staff in safety.
    • Ability to implement and maintain lab safety (physical) by ensuring safety protocols on all lab activities.
    • Able to work in a plant environment as needed to scale up products or processes.
    • Experience in construction, framing, building materials, and their installation preferred.
    • General knowledge regarding proper chemical handling preferred.

Conventional Lathe Machinist - Omniseal Solution (1st Shift) $25-$35 per hour

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Conventional Lathe Machinist – sets up and operates machines (including lathes) to fabricate parts per work order/drawing requirements in a safety conscious and quality-focused manner. The role is accountable to load parts in the machine, cycle the machine and detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. The Conventional Machinist utilizes hand tools to deburr, de-gate, or polish and package all production in accordance with the router steps and stamps off operations before moving to the next operation. The position runs productions lots, communicates with co-workers regarding production runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

  • Read blueprint drawings, job orders, tooling instructions or standard charts to determine specification procedures.
  • Set-up and run various machine tools on a manual engine lathe machine.
  • Load and indicate part to fixture and secure the work piece in the holding device.
  • Select suitable tools and cutters to perform the required operations.
  • Understand all GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances).
  • Compute and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of work pieces.
  • Position and secure tools and tool holders to tool heads.
  • Monitor tool wear and change tools and inserts as required.
  • Use appropriate measuring equipment (such as micrometers, Vernier, height gauges, bore gauges etc.) to ensure that all components produced meet customer specifications.
  • Make quality parts that meet customer specifications and deadlines, without rejection, in a fast paced work environment.
  • Meet ongoing production quotas while working within very close tolerances in a machine-shop production environment.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance.
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement processes and projects in the areas of output, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Maintain work space before, during, and after each scheduled shift in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other supporting tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor or Lead.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • HS Diploma or GED certificate
  • Minimum 3 years previous work experience as a Lathe Machinist with understanding of Conventional lathe machines.
  • Experience handling large, heavy parts as well as small components.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow written materials including blueprint drawings, job orders, etc.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use measuring instruments.
  • Basic computer knowledge and good math skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.Strong work ethic, attention to detail, good attendance and flexibility to work overtime as needed.

This hourly pay rate offered can vary depending on location, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments/an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of hourly rate based on company and individual performance measures. The total annual target cash range (Hourly Pay Rate plus Bonus, annualized (40 hrs./week * 52wks)) for this position, is $57,2008 to $80,080. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
